Meditation Retreat Dharma Talks from Saturday November 12th, 2016

Sokuzan gives two dharma talks during SokukoJi Buddhist Community-Traverse City’s  November All-Day Sitting Meditation Retreat.

Sokuzan started the retreat with this talk about meditation using the metaphor “flowers and weeds” as a way of describing how we tend to judge what arises in awareness when we sit. Sokuzan emphasizes observing awareness rather than meddling with the contents of awareness.

Sokuzan gives another dharma talk at the end of the day. He says: ” When you sit down and hold still, “no comment”, radically, “no comment”! Be a minimalist. Don’t try to be mindful. Allow things to arise with as little added activity as possible.”
