Please Join Us for SokukoJi Buddhist Community-Traverse City’s Second Saturday of the Month Meditation Retreat on May 13, 2017


Sokuzan, a Soto Zen monk and head teacher at SokukoJi Buddhist Temple Monastery in Battle Creek will teach this meditation retreat. Beginners are welcome. A simple lunch is provided. Registration is $40.00*. Hosted at the Pathways Preschool building, 703 Rose St, Traverse City, MI 49686.

9:00 am     First bell and brief sitting, followed by dharma talk with meditation instruction by Sokuzan.

                   (please arrive by 8:50am so you can find your seat and settle in)

Noon         Lunch

1:00pm     Work period (samu)

2:00pm     Sitting meditation

2:30pm     Walking meditation (kinhin, or slow walking)

2:40pm     Sitting meditation with Maitri Bhavana chants offered for healing

3:10pm     Walking meditation

3:20pm     Sitting meditation

3:50pm     Sokuzan will give a dharma talk with Q&A  

5:00pm     Retreat concludes

Sokuzan will offer private interviews (private meeting with the teacher to ask questions and discuss your practice) during the morning and afternoon segments. Teacher dana (donation) is a traditional Buddhist practice, and though not required, it is greatly appreciated and helps support the teacher.

*Registration fees help with expenses related to this retreat and to the support of SokukoJi Buddhist Community-Traverse City , We accept cash, check, or credit card payments at the door. If you are unable to pay the full amount, please ask for assistance .
