We are extended community (sangha) of SokukoJi Buddhist Temple Monastery in Battle Creek, Michigan. We offer opportunities for meditation as awareness practice including weekly meditation and dharma study as well as retreat events.
Introduction to Buddhism and Zen Meditation, Monday eves, February 5 through March 12, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Spirituality and Health/Yen Yoga Annex in Traverse City. This six week course will introduce some basic Buddhist concepts that help investigate the nature of mind. Each session will include about 20 minutes of meditation with instruction followed by a dharma talk with Q&A. “A Meditation Primer” by Sokuzan is included with the $100 registration. Meditation Retreat: Saturday, February 10th, 9:00am to 4:30pm Our second Saturday of the month meditation retreat will be held at Pathways Preschool in February. We will practice meditation and listen to Sokuzan give a dharma talk. Beginners are welcome. $40.00 registration will be collected at the door (cash, check , or credit card). Buddhist Meditation and Dharma Study:
Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm. We start with a short Buddhist Service followed by sitting meditation then book study of Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism by Chogyam Trungpa. On the second Thursday of the month, Kozan will give a Dharma talk in place of the book study. Donations are appreciated. Instruction is available before the service. All-day Retreat: Second Saturday of the Month This is held in the Traverse City region with locations and details announced two weeks in advance. We usually meet for meditation, teaching, work/study and community.
